every time i ask people if they do any new years resolutions its all ooooo i dont like making them bc i fail or ohhhhh no i couldnt keep up wiht that and then when they ask me and i tell them about Pasta Quest (i am eating as many different pasta shapes as possible in the space of a year) or when i did Fruit Adventures (every time i saw a fruit i had never eaten before id get one and eat it and read the wikipedia article about it) theyre like hang on i forgot you can make Fun Ones i want a fun one
if cilantro tastes like soap to some people why is it such an uncommon soap scent? I feel like things that taste like soap should be soap
before soap existed what did the soap gene cavemen say cilantrussy. hang on i have to stop this mid sentence because my phone autocorrected cilantro to cilantrussy which means i have previously typed that word out enough for my phone to think it’s a word and more of a word than cilantro. i have some inward reflection to do.
You know our society is fucked up when people seriously think being a criminal defense attorney is like. A moral evil. Like people seriously jump to “wow you defend murderers” as if the majority of “crime” that happens on a daily basis isn’t literally stuff like addicts being caught possessing drugs or homeless people being arrested for loitering or fucking poor women stealing food and clothes for their kids like… the average person is just one or two paychecks away from also being deemed a “criminal” by society but yeah sure you should definitely act like needing to be defended against the state makes you an automatically morally bad person
It’s not a mistake that in popular police procedural dramas legal defense for the suspect is portrayed as comically evil and the viewer is lead to believe that criminal defense gets in the way of police helping people lol
the x files is funny because at the time it was “progressive” or whatever to have the ultra-rational, levelheaded character be a woman
but it’s also a show where all the fucked up alien shit actually is real, so she’s just constantly wrong about everything
What’s funny is how often they’re both wrong. Mulder will be like “the victims all had their livers scooped clean out this is obviously the aliens escalating from cattle mutilation” and Scully will be like “don’t be silly Mulder this is clearly just a serial killer who’s really good with surgical tools” and then it turns out the actual killer is an immortal sewer man who comes out ever quarterly century to feast on human liver.
I cannot stress enough that this is literally the plot of an actual episode
people with medical issues are not “putting a strain on the medical system”. that’s what the medical system is for. yes this includes people with substance use related medical issues and other people considered “undeserving” of help
Any so-called “strain” on healthcare can be solved by increasing supply instead of trying to lower demand. When healthcare professionals are being overworked and underpaid, when access to education and training for those entering medical professions is limited, when access to preventative care and early interventions is out of reach for many patients, leading to more work needed down the line to treat them, that’s when the system starts getting strained. If the medical system isn’t capable of providing care to everyone in need of it, that’s a problem with the medical system, not with the patients.
